Lofer is a small, picturesque, compact village with a pedestrianised centre, located within the province of Salzburgerland, on the border with the province of Tirol. The Loferer Alm has a good snow record and tends to hold its snow well into April and although it is virtually unknown on the UK market it is very popular with the Austrians. Lofer is one of those little gems that hopefully the masses don’t find out about!

There are 46km of runs with a beautiful 10km non stop run from top to bottom. The village is very proud of their ski shuttle, a small colourful train, that runs every 20 minutes between 08.30 – 1800, to and from your hotel to the gondola and children’s and beginner ‘s area. The skiing is perfect for intermediates and beginners, with wide open and well groomed pistes, and for the advanced skiers among you, there are some challenging off-piste runs.

The main village gondola will whisk you onto the slopes in no time and once you are up there the dramatic mountain scenery is sure to impress you, while refreshments can be taken at one of the rustic mountain hut restaurants to be found on the piste.Lofer is also the home of the British Olympic Ski Team where they centre their training camp.

There are few British Holidaymakers that know of Lofer although those that do have been known to return for many years as a private oasis. The skiing is not overly challenging but uncrowded and very well serviced by an excellent ski-school. Additionally it is possible to buy the Salzburg Skipass which covers 42 resorts including Kitzbuhel, Zell am See and Kaprun easily reached by the local skibus network at an additional cost.

Apres Ski:
Parties and regular fireworks displays and skiing/snowboard displays take place regularly. There's also an abundance of cafes and bars to go with the stunning views:

Activities:
skiing is the center of activites(at the ski school which has friendly English-speaking instructors) but you can still participate in other activities such as tobogganing, curling, swimming and ice-skating
